about wana
The Western Australian Accredited Newsagents Association Inc was established in 1986 and its purpose at that time was to represent the interests of Newsagents on the newly formed Newsagency Council of WA Inc. The Newsagency Council had been created by an authorisation granted under provisions of the Trade Practises Act in January 1986.
In late 2002 the Newsagency Council had its authorisation withdrawn, this followed on from what had occurred across the East coast in the late 1990’s when the newsagency councils were dissolved and left the industry with the current system.
In 2004 the members of WAANA Inc made the decision to become a branch of the Australian Newsagents’ Federation, along with the other state association across Australia. Tasmania, Northern Territory and South Australia association followed in the same pathway as WA.
